Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

It can be legalism. Some who keep Sabbath like I do ... do so for legalism.

We do have principles and it is up to each person to apply those principles. However ... each person will apply them differently. I don't expect people to apply the principles as I do.

So yes ... it IS okay for some to go out to eat or read the newspaper or play volleyball on Sabbath. Just my interpretation of scripture.

So for what purpose is the Sabbath if you can do pretty much what you want to do that is no different than the rest of the week?

Your askin' the wrong person that question. Never heard of a Sabbath keeper who felt that way.

The purpose for the sabbath is rest and relaxation from our weekday work. The thing is, if the Lord has given you something to do during the rest of the week, the purpose of the sabbath is to allow us time to do what we want to do. If we work on Sabbath, then we should take a different day off.

Your line of reasoning me to the question. Since you didn't like how it ended up, let me ask the question again.

Are there any PRINCIPLES that we can nail down that can guide us in deciding what activities are/not appropriate for the Sabbath? Or is that still legalism?

After looking at this discussion, it seems to me that one angle is being left out - our witness as Christians. Can some of the activities mentioned be done and our witness as Christians be undamaged? Just a thought.
